“The Chatou fair is a window of the past opening out on to contemporary creation. It is an ideal spot to gather popular contemporary art with traditional roots”
Jean Nowicki, President of SNCAO-GA and Philippe Chancereul Curator of the Chatou Fair.
Everyone has heard of the Rio carnival but not many know that the Guadeloupe carnival is one of the biggest in the world. With his expert eye and knowledge of antiques, Jean-Denis Morat, has been covering the Guadeloupe carnival event for over four years. He has taken in the spirit and soul which drives the carnival. The colourful and loud event is not only a musical show with feathers and glitter, it is also the occasion for the whole population with its culture and origins, to gather and unite.
With artistic portraits, Jean-Denis Morat, captures the beauty, force and emotion of the event. With this photography exhibition, we are able to discover the creativity of people behind scenes who work on the make up, costumes and masks using natural or recycled materials.
“I would like visitors to the exhibition to one day discover the depth and beauty of the Guadeloupe Carnival. Before they do, I hope my original photos allow them to walk away with a little of the joy and pleasure the carnival brings. This is my true wish for the exhibition.”
