The Chatou Fair regularly welcomes new participants, vetted and selected for the quality of their stock by the SNCAO-GA.
Several were first-time exhibitors at the last Fair. They’re unusual people, world travellers, drawn from many walks of life, the products of untypical careers.
Here are some of the fair’s new talents.
Claudie Ferré, fresh from London
After living and working for many years in London, the globe-trotting Claudie Ferré has brought back to France a dynamism, an enthusiasm and a deep knowledge of art deco and the ‘50s era. Exhibiting for the second time at Chatou, she will be showing a cutting-edge selection of 20th century lamps and light fittings. Absolutely a must-see.
Damien Desport : engineering as second nature
An architect father, a specialisation in technical studies at his Paris high school, and a career in marketing : so many pointers that help to understand why Damien Desport is into things from the world of industry, with their characteristic style that’s both aesthetic and technical.
The second life of Angélique, a k a NJ la bidouille
Angélique Boetsch was a florist, living in the Vosges hills of eastern France until 2001, when she set up a workshop in the flatlands of the Vendée, facing the Atlantic, about as far from her earlier existence, in every way, as it’s possible to get. There, she recycles and transforms old furniture that she sells under the name NJ La bidouille (NJ The Tinkerer). She’s learned to solder and patinate, giving a second life to old cast-offs. Among the things she will be showing are flower boxes made from the planks of old school stages, originally used for children’s plays and other performances.
